ROLLING HILLS GIRL’S 15 S TENNIS TEAM GOING TO SECTIONALSTEAM WILL TRY TO QUALIFY FOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!In 2005, Rolling Hill’s Girl’s 15 s Summer USTA Tennis Team won the Gar Glenny State Championship. In 2006 and 2007, the teams made it to the finals of the Sectionals Tournament but were deeind. In 2006 the team lost to Blossom Hill out of San Jose, and in 2007, the team lost a heartbreaking match to Courtside Racquet Club out of Los Gatos. The 2008 team is a strong, motivated group of mostly Marin County players with two new additions from the East Bay. Head Coach Jay Potter figures this team has the talent and experience to make a serious run this year. All of our girls this year are seasoned players with a fair amount of USTA Tournament experience , stated Potter. They are motivated this year because the State Championship will be held in San Diego . Potter also added, We were very fortunate to land one of the top players in Northern California, Jamie Pawid, of Castro Valley, who happened to be good friends with one of our returning players, Laura Posylkin from Novato . Pawid, is one of the top players in both the Girl’s 16 s and 18 s in Northern California and just recently won the National USTA West Coast Championships. Jamie is ranked number eleven in the 18 s and only plays National events in the 16 s. She was the North Coast Section Girls Singles Champion in 2007 playing for Castro Valley High School.Laura Posylkin, a sophomore at San Marin High, was a member of the 2005 team that won the State Championship. In fact, it was Laura’s win in doubles that clinched the final match in 2005 and handed the team the first State Team Tennis Championship in Marin County. Laura is slated to play number two singles and team with Pawid in number one doubles. Laura is currently ranked number eighteen in the Girl’s 16 s in Northern California.Megan Govi from Novato, a sophomore at Marin Catholic, Kaitlin Torre, also a sophomore at Marin Catholic, Liza Brusman from Mill Valley, an incoming freshman at Tam High School, and Marianne Pelletier, a sophomore at San Marin are four local players who will add significant depth to the team. Govi is ranked number twenty-eight in the Girl’s 16 s and recently had a win over Posylkin in the finals of the USTA San Marin Junior Open. Liza and Marianne are both ranked in the Girl’s 14 s while Torre is a up and coming player who recently finished third in the 16 s at the USTA San Marin Junior Open. Megan Tang, from Clayton rounds out the rest of the squad. Tang is ranked just behind Govi at number twenty nine and is slated to play number four singles and team with Govi at number two doubles. Rolling Hills, the number two seed behind Courtside Racquet Club, opens play against Clovis High School on Friday at 2pm. Should the win the Tournament, they will advance to the Gar Glenny Cup at San Diego State University, August 23-24. Jay Potter, Director of TennisRolling Hills Club415-444-9515
